Alex can I assume that you will deal with item c below re the database Karen -----Original Message----- From: Mike Hamilton [mailto:mike@britishorienteering.org.uk] Sent: 09 March 2009 14:14 To: mike@britishorienteering.org.uk Subject: Please forward to club mappers For the Attention of club secretaries Please find attached a document outlining the contract that British Orienteering now has with Ordnance Survey and several other matters regarding mapping. Can you please pass this email on to the people responsible for mapping in your club. There are several matters for the attention of mappers: a) A document outlining the contract and its implications b) The new licence number is 100015287 please inform all your mappers as this is required to be printed on all maps c) A copy of the map database that is in the web site. Can you please print off the pages appropriate to your club (it’s in alphabetic club order) and fill in the 2 right hand columns where appropriate. I would like to update the current status of the map ie is it current (just add a tick) or is it now out of date (add a ‘X’). Then there is space if you want add a comment – I would particularly like to know if a map supersedes other maps hence making the older map no longer valid. This information is vital if we are to update the database and make it a more effective database of ‘current’ maps. Older maps will be left in the database but marked as no longer active and will not be shown when the map database is used to enter events. Can you please post a copy of your updated club pages back to the National Office as soon as possible – many thanks in anticipation for your help with this. d) Map Awards: The map group will be considering maps first used during 2008 for the various map awards. In addition to the awards certificates are also provided for other maps considered as excellent and for maps by first time mappers. For a map to be considered, it must have been returned to the office with form MR2. The awards include: - Chichester Trophy. For the best cartography by an amateur mapper for a map first used at an event during 2008 - Silva Trophy. For the best map produced by a professional mapper for a map first used during 2008 - Bonington Trophy. For long time services to orienteering mapping - Sprint Trophy. For the best sprint/city map first used in 2008. e) Map Group would also like 2008 maps to be sent into the office without MR2s if necessary; the second stage of registration can follow on paper prior to the web registration system being made live. I apologise for asking you to forward these messages on to your mappers but we do not currently have a list of mappers at the National Office. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me. Many thanks for your help with this.
